ChatFrom vs Intercom Fin: price, channels and setup

I compared ChatFrom with Intercom's Fin on price, channels, setup, tools and hosting, using Fin's published prices and ChatFrom's measured answer costs.

ChatFrom vs Intercom Fin: price, channels and setup, on a gray-cream background with fine crossing lines.

Intercom's Fin and ChatFrom both answer customers from your own content, but they charge in very different ways. Fin costs $0.99 for each conversation that ends in an outcome, on top of an Intercom seat from $29 a month. ChatFrom charges a flat monthly plan, from $29 for 7,000 answer credits. On GPT-5 mini, the default model, that is about 5,200 answers a month, or 1,700 conversations of three answers.

In my cost model, 1,000 support conversations a month come to about $524 on Fin with one seat, and $29 on ChatFrom Pro. Fin is the better choice if you want a full help desk, answers by phone or SMS, or 45 languages listed out of the box. ChatFrom suits small teams that want a bill that does not grow with each conversation, a choice of AI model, and hosting in Germany on every plan.

Two different kinds of product

Fin is the AI agent of Intercom's help desk. It answers first, and your team takes over in the same inbox. Intercom also sells Fin on its own, for teams that already use another help desk such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho or Gorgias. In both cases, Fin is built for a support team that works in a help desk every day.

ChatFrom is a chatbot builder. You give it your documents, your website and your answers, and it answers on your website, in chat apps and by email. When a person is needed, it hands the conversation to your team by email or Slack. There is no shared inbox. That makes it a better fit for a small team, or a business without a support department.

A ChatFrom chatbot named Samantha books a call back: the visitor picks Thursday at 14:00, the chatbot confirms the booking, and a note says the call request was sent to the team. Above it, the workflow's steps light up as they run.

How each one charges

This is where the two differ most. Fin charges for outcomes. ChatFrom charges for a plan, and each answer uses credits from it.

Two cards side by side. Intercom Fin: a help desk seat from $29 a month, plus $0.99 for each outcome, so the bill grows with every conversation that ends in an outcome. ChatFrom: one plan at $0, $29 or $49 a month with 50, 7,000 or 20,000 credits, and about 1.4 credits per answer on the default model, so the bill stays the plan's price.

Intercom counts an outcome when the customer asks for no further help after Fin's last answer, and also when Fin routes the conversation, qualifies or disqualifies a lead, or hands over through one of its procedures. A conversation that is simply passed to your team is not charged. The details are on Fin's pricing page and Intercom's.

ChatFrom counts answers. Each answer uses credits by what the AI model cost for it, and at least one credit. On the default model, GPT-5 mini, an answer used about 1.35 credits in my measurement, so Pro's 7,000 credits give about 5,200 answers a month.

What a month costs

To compare the two, I had to assume two things. First, that a support conversation takes three answers on ChatFrom. Second, that half of Fin's conversations end in a billable outcome. Intercom has reported an average resolution rate of about half, and billable outcomes also include some routings and hand-overs, so the real share may be higher.

  • At small volumes the gap is smaller. With 100 conversations a month, Fin on Intercom comes to about $78.50, and ChatFrom Pro is $29. The Free plan's 50 credits cover only about a dozen conversations, so it is for trying ChatFrom out.
  • At larger volumes Fin grows and ChatFrom steps. Fin adds $0.99 for every outcome, so 3,000 conversations cost about $1,514. On ChatFrom the same month fits in Business at $49.
  • Long conversations change the picture. Fin charges once per conversation. ChatFrom charges per answer, so a conversation of ten answers uses more than three times the credits of one with three.
  • ChatFrom has a ceiling. At three answers per conversation on the default model, Business covers about 4,900 conversations a month. Past that, answers stop until the month resets, or you agree custom terms with us.

The cost per conversation shows the same gap. With half of its conversations ending in an outcome, Fin averages about $0.50 a conversation before seats. On ChatFrom Pro used in full, a three-answer conversation costs about $0.017. My assumptions matter here, so I suggest checking them against your own conversations.

The model you choose

Fin runs on Intercom's own models, which it calls Apex. You do not choose the model. ChatFrom offers eight models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Mistral, and the one you choose sets how far a plan goes. This table shows 1,000 conversations of three answers each on every model.

I measured the first four on 24 September 2026, as the mean of a first answer and a follow-up, including the search steps around the answer. The other four are estimated from their list prices. Even on the dearer models, a month of 1,000 conversations stays within $49, apart from Claude Sonnet 4.5.

Channels and languages

Fin answers on more channels, voice and SMS among them. ChatFrom has a few that Fin does not list, such as Telegram and the Crisp chatbox.

Fin's list is on its channels page. By default, ChatFrom answers in the language each visitor writes in, even when your documents are in another one. You can also set it to always answer in one language, chosen from 14. On cost, the channel does not matter for either product: Fin charges the same outcome everywhere, and ChatFrom the same credits per answer.

Setting it up

Intercom says Fin can be set up on an existing help desk in under an hour. It learns your policies and procedures, and complex tasks run as procedures. It also has a testing suite that runs simulated conversations before Fin goes live.

In ChatFrom, you point it at your website or upload files, add questions and answers, and choose the model and the tone. A first chatbot answers within a few minutes. For tasks with several steps, there is a workflow canvas. Each step is a box: ask the visitor something, call a tool, search the knowledge, or hand over to a person.

A ChatFrom workflow: the visitor's message goes to a condition that asks what the visitor wants. A call branch asks for a phone number, offers times and books a call back; a person branch hands over to a human; any other message is answered from the knowledge, citing its sources.
A support workflow in ChatFrom: book a call, hand over to a person, or answer from the knowledge.

Both can be tested before going live. In ChatFrom, you try the chatbot in the dashboard, and you can run evaluations with your own questions and expected answers. Evaluations run on your own OpenRouter key, so they do not use the plan's credits.

Tools and actions

Fin can take actions in other systems through Intercom's API, its data connectors or MCP, such as updating an account or issuing a refund. Most of these are set up per business, often with a developer.

ChatFrom has some tools built in, which you switch on with a key or a sign-in. It can look up a Shopify order and request a return, manage a Stripe subscription once the visitor proves their email with a code, add a row to a Google Sheet, book a meeting in Cal.com or Calendly, and take call-back requests. For anything else, it calls your own API or an MCP server.

On cost, a tool call in ChatFrom is part of an answer and uses its credits. On Fin, a conversation that ends with an action is one outcome, at $0.99.

Where the data is

  • ChatFrom runs its app, its engine and its database in Frankfurt, Germany, on every plan. The AI models run at their makers, mostly in the United States. Each call goes only to the maker of its model. On the Free plan, conversations are deleted two weeks after their last message.
  • Intercom offers hosting in the United States, the EU (Dublin) and Australia. The EU is for new Advanced or Expert workspaces on a contract, and an existing workspace cannot move. Its hosting article does not say where Fin's own processing happens.

For a European business, that means ChatFrom keeps its data in Germany at the $29 price. On Intercom, the EU is tied to a higher plan and a contract.

What ChatFrom does not do

These gaps are real, and they decide the choice for some teams.

  • No help desk. A hand-off goes to your team by email or Slack, or into your Crisp chatbox. There is no shared inbox with tickets.
  • No phone, SMS, Messenger or Instagram. If your customers write there, Fin covers them and ChatFrom does not.
  • One person per account. Several people cannot share an account yet.
  • A hard stop at the plan's credits. That keeps the bill fixed, but a busy month can end with answers paused until the credits reset or you upgrade.
  • A young product. ChatFrom comes from a small studio. Intercom has been in support software for years.

Common questions

How much does Intercom Fin cost?

Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, and $9.99 per qualified lead. On Intercom you also need at least one seat, at $29, $85 or $132 a month. On another help desk there are no seats, but there is a minimum of 50 outcomes a month, which is $49.50. That was the price on 13 October 2026.

Is ChatFrom cheaper than Fin?

For most small teams, yes. With three answers per conversation and half of Fin's conversations ending in an outcome, 1,000 conversations cost about $524 on Fin with one seat and $29 on ChatFrom Pro. The gap is smaller at very low volumes, and it depends on how long your conversations are.

Can I use Fin without Intercom's help desk?

Yes. Intercom sells Fin for Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho, Gorgias and other help desks, with no seats and a minimum of 50 outcomes a month.

What happens on ChatFrom when the credits run out?

The chatbot stops answering until the month resets, or until you move to a larger plan. Nothing is charged past the plan. The dashboard shows how much of the month's credits are used.

Which one keeps data in the EU?

ChatFrom keeps its app, engine and database in Frankfurt on every plan, while the AI models run at their makers. Intercom offers the EU (Dublin) for new Advanced or Expert workspaces on a contract.

If you already run your support in Intercom, Fin is the natural choice. It answers in the inbox your team uses, and its price is easy to forecast once you know your outcome rate. If you are a small team without a help desk, I think ChatFrom is the better fit, mostly because of cost. In my model, the same 1,000 conversations cost $29 instead of about $524, and the price does not grow with each conversation.

Either way, check the assumptions against your own conversations: how many answers each one takes, and how many would end in an outcome. Those two numbers decide the difference more than anything else in this comparison.
