Shopify
Your chatbot tells customers where their order is, with the tracking link, and asks your store to accept a return, which you approve or decline in Shopify. Setting it up takes about ten minutes.
What your customers can do
- Ask about an order. The chatbot asks for the order number and the email the order was placed with, then answers with the payment and delivery status, the tracking link and a link to the order's page.
- Ask for a return. The chatbot says which items, how many and why, and asks the customer to confirm. Then it sends your store a return request. You approve or decline it in Shopify, and Shopify emails the customer. The chatbot never refunds anything.
In Shopify
- Open Shopify's Dev Dashboard, in the same organization as your store, and create an app.
- Give it the Admin API scopes
read_orders,read_returnsandwrite_returns.read_ordersreaches the last 60 days of orders; for older ones, ask Shopify forread_all_ordersas well. - Give the app access to customers' email, which Shopify calls protected customer data. The chatbot needs it to check that an order belongs to the customer asking.
- Install the app on your store.
- Copy the app's client ID and secret from its settings.
Already have a custom app that you made in your store's admin before 2026? You can use its Admin API access token instead of a client ID and secret.
In ChatFrom
- Open your chatbot and go to Tools.
- Under Shopify, enter your store's address, such as
my-store.myshopify.com, with the client ID and secret, and press Connect store. - ChatFrom checks them with Shopify, shows your store's name and switches Order tools on. If the app is missing a scope or cannot read customers' email, the card says what to add.
- Try it in the Playground: ask "Where is my order #1001?" with an order from your store.
A workflow can use the same tools in its Tool Call step: shopify_order_status and shopify_request_return.
How your customers' orders stay private
- An order is looked up only with its number and the email it was placed with, and both must match. The chatbot never says which of the two was wrong.
- A conversation can look up 10 orders an hour, and repeated misses pause lookups for a while, so nobody can guess their way through your orders.
- Your app's secret is stored encrypted and is never shown again, to you or anyone else.
- A return is only ever a request. You decide in Shopify.
To stop, switch Order tools off, or press Disconnect to delete the stored secret. The app stays installed on your store until you remove it in Shopify. What else a chatbot can connect to is on the Connections page.
