ChatFrom channels: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, email and Crisp
Updated
Answering in WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, email and Crisp: how to connect each one, what it costs, and what people can send.
Where can a ChatFrom chatbot answer?
On your website (a widget added with one script tag), on a share link, inside your own signed-in product, and in WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, the Crisp chatbox and email. The same chatbot answers everywhere with the same knowledge, tools and workflows, and every conversation lands in one log under Conversations, marked with the channel it came from. Channels are set up under Channels in the dashboard, on every plan, and the chatbot answers in them only while it is live.
ChatFrom does not answer phone calls, SMS, Facebook Messenger, Instagram or Microsoft Teams.
How do I put the chatbot on WhatsApp?
ChatFrom connects through Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API, with a Meta app of your own:
- In Meta for Developers, create an app with the use case Connect with customers through WhatsApp. Meta gives you a test number to start.
- Copy three values: the Phone number ID, a permanent access token from a system user, and the App secret.
- Paste them under Channels in ChatFrom. It checks them and shows a callback URL and a verify token, which you enter in your Meta app's webhook, then subscribe to messages.
- Add your own number and a payment method, then send it a message.
It takes about half an hour. The number must be yours and not still in use on the WhatsApp app. The chatbot only replies to messages people send, within WhatsApp's 24-hour window, so it never needs Meta's message templates. A question with a few options shows as buttons, a longer one as a list.
Does WhatsApp cost extra?
ChatFrom adds no fee per message. Meta charges its own fees: messages from customers are free, and the first 1,000 replies a month on each number are free. Since 1 October 2026, each reply past that costs Meta's rate for the customer's country, for example $0.0034 in the US and Canada, $0.022 in the UK and $0.055 in Germany. Meta bills these to the payment method on your WhatsApp account; without one, replies stop once the month's free ones are used.
How do I put the chatbot on Telegram?
Open @BotFather in Telegram, send /newbot, choose a name and a username ending in "bot", and copy the token. Paste it under Channels and press Connect Telegram. The bot answers every message in a private chat, and in a group only when someone mentions it or replies to it. It takes a few minutes.
How do I put the chatbot in Slack?
Copy the app manifest shown under Slack in ChatFrom, create a Slack app From a manifest, install it, then paste the Bot User OAuth Token (starting xoxb-) and the Signing Secret into ChatFrom. People can message it directly, or mention it in a channel it was invited to, where it answers in a thread.
How do I put the chatbot on Discord?
Create an application in Discord's developer portal, turn on Message Content Intent under Bot, reset and copy the bot token, and paste it under Channels. Then press Add it to a server. People mention the bot in a channel, reply to it, or message it directly.
Can the chatbot answer my support email?
Yes. Under Channels, press Give this chatbot an address, and ChatFrom gives it its own address. Forward your support address to it from your mail provider. The chatbot replies in the same thread within a minute, from the chatbot's address (answering from your own domain is not built yet). It answers people, not out-of-office replies, newsletters or mailing lists, removes quoted threads and signatures before reading, and writes options as a numbered list. Attachments in email are not read yet.
Can ChatFrom work with Crisp?
Yes. If your website already uses Crisp's chatbox, the chatbot can answer in it: add Crisp's API token and Website ID under Channels and a web hook in Crisp. Visitors keep the chatbox they know and your team keeps working in Crisp's inbox. Once someone on your team writes in a conversation, or the chatbot hands it off, the chatbot stays quiet in that conversation for a day.
What can people send in chat apps?
Text everywhere. With Visitors can attach files on, the chatbot reads a photo, or a PDF, text, Markdown or CSV file, sent in a chat with one person on WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord or Crisp. In a group or server channel it never reads files. Voice notes and videos are not understood; on WhatsApp the chatbot asks for text instead.
Are there commands?
Yes: new starts a new conversation, connect links the person's account on your site, and disconnect unlinks it (with a slash in Telegram: /new, /connect, /disconnect). A conversation continues until a day passes without a message, or two weeks by email.
Who owns the bots and numbers?
You do. Your Meta app and WhatsApp number, Telegram bot, Slack app, Discord bot and Crisp workspace belong to your own account with each service, and ChatFrom stores their tokens and secrets encrypted.
