Putting a ChatFrom chatbot on your website
Updated
Putting a ChatFrom chatbot on your website: the script tag, the bubble or the input bar, the appearance options, the share link and in-app use.
How do I add the chatbot to my website?
Under Deploy there are four steps:
- Allowed domains: enter your website's address, such as example.com; its subdomains, such as shop.example.com, are included. The chatbot only works on the sites you list, so nobody can put it on theirs. Your site needs https (localhost works for trying it out).
- Appearance: choose its colour, whether it waits as a bubble or as an input bar, and what visitors may do.
- Website widget: copy the short script tag and paste it into your website just before </body>.
- Go live: from then on, the chatbot answers visitors on your website, its share link and any connected chat apps. Take offline turns it back into a draft.
The script tag looks like this, with your chatbot's id:
<script src="https://chatfrom.io/w.js" data-bot="YOUR-CHATBOT-ID" defer></script>Does it work with WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix or other site builders?
Yes, on any website where you can add a script tag, which most website builders allow in their settings. If someone else looks after your site, send them the snippet; it takes a minute.
Does the widget slow down my website?
No. The widget loads the chat only once your page has loaded, so it does not hold the page up.
What is the share link?
Every chatbot also gets a share link: a page of its own with the chatbot on it. Send it to someone, put it in an email or a menu, or use it if you do not have a website.
What appearance options are there?
Under Deploy, Appearance, you choose:
- Accent colour: the colour of its buttons and your messages.
- Launcher: a round Bubble in a corner of the page, which opens the chat, or an Input bar, a bar of frosted glass across the foot of the page that visitors can type into straight away.
- For the bubble: its icon, an optional label beside it, its size, which corner it sits in, and whether the message box is one line or grows with the text.
- For the input bar: Bar position (left, center or right; on a phone it spans the screen) and Placeholder texts, up to four lines of your own that take turns in the bar, typed in word by word. Without them, the bar shows your suggested questions.
- Initial state: whether the chat starts closed or open.
Then the switches for what visitors get:
- Remember returning visitors: the chatbot knows a visitor when they come back, and shows their conversation again for up to 30 days. In the EU this needs the visitor's consent, so turn it on only if your site asks for it, for example in its cookie banner.
- Visitors can attach files: visitors can send a file or a photo, such as an invoice or a picture of a damaged item, and the chatbot reads it and answers about it.
- Show sources under answers: each answer lists the pages and documents it came from, with a number in the text for each. A web page opens in a new tab, and a file opens to the passage the answer used. Turned off, visitors get the answers alone, on your site, the share link and in chat apps, and you still see the sources in Conversations.
- Visitors can download the chat: visitors can save the conversation as a text file. On unless you turn it off.
- Tell visitors it's an AI assistant: the line "You're chatting with an AI assistant" under the chat. On unless you turn it off.
How does the input bar work?
The input bar waits across the foot of your page, with your placeholder texts or suggested questions taking turns in it. When a visitor clicks into it, your suggested questions appear above it as buttons. They type a question or pick one, and the chat grows up out of the bar with the question already asked.
A tap on the page beside the open chat folds it away. Once there is a conversation, the bar waits smaller and says Continue conversation; a click opens the chat where it was, on the next page of your site too.
How do answers look in the chat?
Answers can have lists, tables, links and bold text. Code, commands and configuration are shown as code blocks, with their language, a copy button and the code in colour.
Can I remove "Powered by ChatFrom"?
No. The "Powered by ChatFrom" line stays on every plan.
Do conversations survive a page reload?
Yes. If a visitor reloads or moves to another page of your site, their conversation is still there, and a button at the top of the chat starts a new one. With Remember returning visitors on, it is also there on their next visit, for up to 30 days.
Can the chatbot know who my signed-in users are?
Yes, for an assistant inside your own product. Your site gives the widget a token it signed for the signed-in user (the data-user-token attribute), and the chatbot passes it only to your own tool server (MCP), which acts on that user's account and no other. The token never goes to other tools, the model or logs. In chat apps, each user links their account once instead.
Can ChatFrom be an assistant inside my app?
Yes. Inside your signed-in app, the chatbot knows the user and can act for them through your own API, for example creating a project or booking a call, instead of only describing how. The tools come from an MCP server your product runs, and the chatbot may use only the tools you list.
Can I test the chatbot before it goes live?
Yes. A new chatbot is a draft that only you can talk to, inside the dashboard. Press Try it at the top of any chatbot page to chat with it exactly as it is, even as a draft.
